About Artbrush

Artbrush is an independent journal about looking closely: at a painting, a small gesture on a screen, or an interface that changes what we notice. We follow the detail that makes a work interesting, then ask what it does.

The editor’s notebook

Ellis Vey is the editorial pen name used for this edition. Publishing responsibility and corrections sit with Artbrush Editorial.

The recurring question is simple: where does the viewer become part of the work? A museum picture finds a voice. A line of poetry changes under a pointer. A painted surface becomes a street to move through. These shifts are the thread connecting the journal's art and design pieces.

How to read the journal

Each piece links to the records it uses. An observation describes something available to inspect; an interpretation explains why it matters. Newly invented examples are identified as examples. Diagrams explain an idea rather than stand in for an original artwork.

Older capture dates identify saved versions, not the publication date of a new article. Notes about missing material stay with the source record so the limits of a reading remain visible.

Earlier works, current edition

The historical projects discussed here include work by Anjali Arora and other named creators. They retain their original attribution. This current edition is independently operated; it is not the original artist's portfolio or an institutional archive.

Illustrations

The cover pictures and new visual studies are contemporary editorial illustrations made for this edition. They introduce the journal’s themes and are distinct from the historical artworks credited in the articles. The studio is an imagined setting. The explanatory diagrams serve a separate role: they make a reading or a design example easier to follow.
